Racy lady wearing leather
Speyside, Spey
The nose was totally pleasant and evocative – dried marigolds, Battenberg cake, Calvados, orange groves, ‘an old wine cellar in Alsace’ and traditional deckchairs (wood, canvas, sun-cream). The palate was described as ‘Delicious’ and ‘Racy’ – intense orange zest, floral perfumes, red peppercorns, three-fruit marmalade and duck a l’orange, with grapefruit, clove and leather tingling the finish. Lots to delight on the reduced nose – passion-fruit, mandarins, barley sugars, vanilla, balsamic and fruit-flavoured tobacco. The palate was rounded and mouth-filling – sticky toffee pudding, Jaffa cakes and dark chocolate gingers – a powerful and sophisticated lady, wearing perfume and leather, not afraid to speak her mind.
