Big and punchy

Highland, Eastern

The nose leads you, through an old wardrobe interior, into a land of toasted marshmallows, creamy toffee, foamy bananas, walnut fudge and a bonfire of nut shells. The palate is big and punchy, with clean, penetrating smoke – chocolate raisins, green peppercorns, liquorice root and fried red chillies. The reduced nose is cleaner and more complex – Calvados-soaked oak, Barbour waxed jackets, singed orange peel, Pontefract cakes and nicotine tar; maybe even tuna Niçoise with sweet, smoky vinaigrette. The reduced palate majors on nutty, earthy flavours – sweet pipe tobacco (in a briar pipe) and chilli dark chocolate with a mouth-drawing, ashy finish.
