Sensational sweet smoky ‘noble rot’

From the first nosing we knew this sample well deserved our attention! The aroma was that of a big, rich yet complex and elegant Sauternes wine, full of smoky lemon and melon balancing the sweetness of tangerine, pineapple and vanilla. On the palate neat more like Pinot Gris Vendange Tardive (late-harvest wine from Alsace); apricot, mango and white peaches with a hint of tobacco smoke – complex, powerful, yet delicate and silky smooth. Water added a little more ashy smoke, sweet liquorice, furniture wax and dried sage, whereas the taste was simply sublime - syrupy and full bodied with notes of honey and candied fruit with a delicate sweet smoky finish.
