Initial nosing suggested a richness and 'fatness' delightfully typical of this underrated distillery. Banana peel, lemon meringue pie, citrus curds, a hessian sack full of vanilla pods and some punchy, expensive olive oil. A little reduction brought out a more fragrant side of Turkish delight, Bakewell tart, dark chocolate and salted peanuts. The palate opened in a silky and inviting fashion. Fondant icing, brioche, proving bread dough, leather saddlebag, furniture polish and unbaked croissants on a floury countertop. With water we found rising notes of butter, violets, cookie dough, tinned custard and mint tea. Some more syrupy vanilla sweetness and glazed pastries.
