The nose suggested caramelised apple, vanilla, almonds and cherries, effervescent vitamin C tablets, orange boxes and tea chests. The palate was lively and lovely – creamed coconut, fudge and toffee to start, then zesty lemon meringue pie, lime sorbet and gooseberry fool; the slightly drying finish left traces of tar, salted leather, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. The reduced nose discovered grapefruit, pink peppercorns and oak, used beach towels in the back of the car and Black Forest gateau made with kirsch. The reduced palate was eminently drinkable and provoked considerable enthusiasm, with its lemon tart, sour apple sweets and San Pellegrino grapefruit drink.
