The palate encountered even-handed smoke and punchy sweetness (vanilla custard slice, Eccles cakes); then a deeper, tongue-nipping finish of stubbed out cigar butts and brush strokes of ash and tar. On the reduced nose, clotted cream and chalky sweets were slapped on a wooden table and rosemary sprigs were chucked on a log fire.
