The palate was similar – Amarena cherries in syrup, tangerines and nectarines – but we also found tobacco leaf, dark brown sugar, tree bark and cinnamon toast – a lovely mouth-filling intensity. The reduced nose involved crème brûlée, old strawberry jam, tannic red wine, shoe leather and Indonesian long pepper. The palate softened to peach melba, Tangfastics, marmalade and tawny port, with a drying finish of wood spices.
