If the sun became too hot we could shelter in the shade of the walnut trees or nearby pine forest with blankets of bluebells covering its pine needle-strewn floor. We refreshed ourselves with bowls of greengages, fresh strawberries and lychees sprinkled with cinnamon and crushed garden mint whilst crunchy gingerbread added to the spicy heat of the day. A sweet and buttery waft passed by like vanilla fudge whilst lemon sweets invited baked apple crumble to join the party.
