As the whisky opened up it grew deeper and more complex, revealing hints of liquorice, black tea and a rich blackberry reduction. On the palate, those darker notes lingered, joined by muscovado sugar, sweet liquorice chews, a smoky barbecue and a touch of plum sauce. A splash of water brought warmth and familiarity, evoking memories of toffee apples, juicy orange wedges and subtle whispers of aniseed and sweet vermouth. To finish, the Panel noted an indulgent parade of dessert favourites: layered gâteaux, chocolate mousse topped with toasted nuts and a gentle dusting of warming spices.
