Along the way, a bountiful spectrum of aromas and flavours will be revealed on our next festival adventure!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOur celebratory cask with special label and international bottle format (700mL) hails from a hidden gem of the Highlands. Producing whisky since 1798, this distillery creates an oily and full-bodied malt that many will argue represents the typical Highland style of a bygone era. \u003cstrong\u003eDistillery 19 Rare Release Out of This World \u003c\/strong\u003eemanates complexity and character in an expression that marries a mouthcoating texture with ample aromas of bright fruits and a divinely decadent palate. You will discover a multi-dimensional dram that will undoubtedly impress the senses. This distillery is new to many Society members, so we happily envy your discovery!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA few flavourful friends are along for the ride today - from the east, we head south for \u003cstrong\u003eCask No. 68.58 A Most Acceptable Start\u003c\/strong\u003e. Casks from this distillery are in high demand thanks to a combination of a rich, malty nose and sweetly nutty palate. This bottling shows flashes of chocolatey grain with vanilla, buttery desserts and hazelnuts on the palate. Let’s continue our journey by heading north for a departure from the norm for this particular distillery. \u003cstrong\u003eCask No. 13.91 A Colourful Companion \u003c\/strong\u003ewas aged entirely in ex-bourbon wood. Most malts from this distillery are sherried within an inch of their lives, so the freshly citric, herbal and vanilla notes that reveal themselves are equally compelling and distinctive. Our final cask comes from a distillery situated in the western Highlands that is rarely seen in single cask form. Most of the spirit produced here is shipped to Japan and used for a Japanese blended whisky produced by the distillery’s owner, so the chance to procure single casks of this iconic malt is few and far between. \u003cstrong\u003eCask No. 78.53 Death in the Afternoon\u003c\/strong\u003e spent 5 years in ex-bourbon and 3 years in Oloroso wood, garnering a bold and balanced expression of dried fruits, dark chocolate and ginger spice. Turning greener on the palate we were reminded of a pistachio cake with matcha green tea, green peas and kombu (Asian seaweed) and green sweet jalapeno jelly chilli sauce. After reduction, the lovely sweet and creamy scent of lemon balm developed, followed by aromas of a gooseberry and vanilla custard tart as well as Battenberg cakes. Delicious to taste neat, with the fatty texture of roasted cherries and vanilla mousse mille-feuille and a teasing spicy ginger coconut finish. With water, we noticed on the nose brandy butter, spun sugar and millionaires’ shortbread as well as hazelnut yoghurt and bergamot oil. The frisky, feisty palate had dark chocolate on crystallised orange slices and spiced damson crumble, then ginger, balsamic and toasted walnuts to finish. The reduced nose found eucalyptus and laurel, marmalade, marmite on rice cakes, butts in a bodega and spiced rum with cola. The palate now offered Viennese coffee with fig, iced ginger cake, Empire biscuits and honey on a wooden spoon. There were bars of nougat, flaked almonds, and sweet peanuts. \"This is nuts!\", exclaimed one humorous panellist. In time, it became more oily, chamois leather, over-ripe peaches, and nectarines as well as a leafy note, with eucalyptus and tea tree oil. To taste, we found salted caramel and white chocolate mice. Still oily, peppery nasturtium leaves, Sichuan pepper, citrus peels, and assorted gin botanicals. With water, \"that's a fat distillate!\", we all agreed. Sweet \u0026amp; creamy, a hessian sack full of barley, rum fudge, boiled toffee sweets and apple and peach Tart Tatin. The amateur baker among us picked up notes of wholemeal bread drizzled with honey and buttery brioche. The taste was full of expressive esters; pink bubble gum, red apple skins, pear drops and raspberry sherbet.
