The arrival on the palate was very silky and smooth but at the same time super smoky tropical fruits as well as cream soda and candy canes. With the addition of water, we found ourselves surprisingly in sand dunes with the fresh wind carrying aromas of gorse, elderflower, hay and grass. Water brought softer notes of smoked olive oil, wormwood, motor oil, old toolboxes, metal polish and a sweet threat of peat smoke. The mouth initially showed surgical mouthwash, aniseed distillate, natural tar, medical embrocations, herbal ointments, horseradish, charred red meats and black coffee. The neat palate showed a big initial slick of extra virgin olive oil, smoked almonds, campfire on a beach and seawater. If 137.13 flashes more mainland peat character, this one surely is going for the Islay style. Swedish peat creates a profile brimming with coal smoke, smoked fish and medicinal notes that have been integrating for twelve years in ex-bourbon wood. It’s all beach bonfire and smoked meats with this gorgeous dram. Let’s head to the far east for \u003cstrong\u003eCask No. 138.11 Crouching in a peat bog\u003c\/strong\u003e and a brilliant finale to our peated adventure. The sweetness and richness imparted on 6 years in this dessert wine cask is evident – sweet pastries, cakes, jams and chocolates send us down a decadent rabbit hole of flavour. Another stunner from a beautiful distillery known for creativity if not eccentricity!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAlso celebrated this month is Saint George’s Day (April 23\u003csup\u003erd\u003c\/sup\u003e) in honor of England’s patron saint. This eponymous distillery seems to be the perfect place to source a peated whisky.
